Cool article about how mobile tech re-united some survivors

Hey there.

I’ve been mostly posting to our Twitter and Facebook pages due to a lack of time, but this is something I thought I should share. Check out this article about how a mobile app re-united a daughter with her family in Japan.

“The family (who asked to remain anonymous) was unable to locate their daughter in the disorder, who was at school over an hour from where they lived — or to reach her on the phone.”

That kind of stuff is why I haven’t just chucked my mobile phone out of the window. 🙂

Again there are several cool events coming up around campus and in LA in general, so please keep us abreast of them (viva Twitter!) and we’ll try to post them up for you. Remember to check out the fundraiser tomorrow on campus. It runs from 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM and you can get a boffo pair of dog tags to support Japanese relief efforts.

When a 9.0 magnitude earthquake and tsunami hit Japan on March 11th, 2011, many people lost their possessions, homes, and loved ones. The country is still undergoing the aftereffects, including the possible dangers of radiation poisoning and earthquake aftershocks. The Japanese Student Association (JSA) at USC, comprised of international students from Japan, will be collecting donations on behalf of the American Red Cross Los Angeles Region towards their Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami Relief efforts to help Japan in its time of need.

On April 14th, 2011, JSA will be hosting a big fundraiser in Founders Park from 11AM-2PM in order to collect donations and spread awareness about the current state of Japan.

We will be selling special “Fight on! JAPAN” dog tags, and giving people the opportunity to also pre-order personalized dog tags, all courtesy of Joyce Lau, the Parkside RCG, the Delta Sigma Pi (DSP) Phi Chapter and SoCal alumni, and the Chinese Student Association (CSA).
For more information, please click on the following link. Pre-order information can also be found here:

All proceeds will go to the American Red Cross Los Angeles Region towards their Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami Relief efforts.

You’ll have the chance to have some fun while supporting the people of Japan, so please stop by and contribute! We’re all looking forward to seeing you there 🙂

Fight On Japan! 頑張れ日本!
